Structured professional learning at Alpha
Job shadowing should be more than simply following someone for a few days.
At Alpha, we build each programme around what you want to understand, explore or improve. Before you arrive, we discuss your professional role and learning objectives, agree an enquiry focus and plan a structured programme of observation, professional dialogue and reflection.
Established in Malta in 1991, Alpha has more than three decades of experience welcoming international educators and coordinating professional learning programmes.

Small-scale by design
Our job shadowing is deliberately personal.
Alpha coordinates each programme and identifies an appropriate setting and named mentor according to your objectives and the access available. Depending on the enquiry focus, observation maty take place within Alpha and, where appropriate, in a relevant educational partner setting in Malta.
Normally, no more than two participants shadow the same mentor.
This creates space to observe closely, ask informed questions and have genuine professional conversations rather than simply joining a large group visit.
More than observation
A useful mobility should give you something you can take home.
Throughout the programme, we help you:
Observer authentic professional practice with a clear purpose.
Question the choices, systems and approaches behind what you see.
Compare practice in Malta with you own professional context.
Reflect on what is genuinely relevant and transerfable.
Apply the strongest idea through a realistic action and dissemination plan.
The aim is not to leave Malta with a long list of observations. It is to return with a clearer understanding, useful professional connections and a small number of ideas worth developing in your own organisation.
What could you explore
Your enquiry focus is agreed with you in advance.
Possible areas include:
- teaching, learning and inclusion
- learner wellbeing and support
- digital learning and appropriate use of AI
- leadership, quality and Erasmus+ practice
- sustainability and whole-school approaches
- administration and learner services
Other professional themes can be considered according to your role, objectives and suitable observation opportunities.
Who is Job Shadowing for?
